Hot stone massage
Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where therapists use heated, smooth stones by placing them on your body. The heat from the stones will help to relax and warm up the muscles so the massage therapist can work on those muscles deeply and more quickly.
The stones are made from basalt. Basalt is rich in iron and retains heat. The stones are kept in a heated and sanitized water until they reach a certain temperature.
The heat from the stones warms and relaxes the muscles. Hot stone treatment improves circulation and calms the nervous system.
Hot stone massage is recommended to people who tend to feel chilly or who have cold feet, have muscle tension but prefer a lighter massage therapy.
Because the heat relaxes the muscle, the massage therapist doesn't have to use deep pressure.
Hot stone massage is also recommended for people with back pain, poor circulation, arthritis, osteoarthritis, stress, anxiety, insomnia or depression.
Instead of using the vertical techniques like all the other massages to manipulate the muscles and the connective tissue, the hot stone massage uses a horizontal technique that results in an increase of the blood flow in your body. Increased blood flow brings more oxygen in your body and fresh nutrients for your tissue.
Hot stone massage is a warm and relaxing way to relieve muscle tension and mental fatigue either you suffer from tight muscle or extra stress.
The massage therapy begins with the application of massage oil to the body and then the hot stones are placed in certain spots on your body. After the stones relaxed your muscles, the massage therapist can use them to perform a massage or he can put them away and perform the massage using his hands.
After the massage, the stones are put back on your body and left there for another short period of time.
Hot stone massage is not recommended for people suffering from infections, skin disease, rash, open wounds, people who are prone to blood clots, heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or people suffering from circulatory conditions.
Sleeping or getting into a deep meditative state of mind is a common to a hot stone massage therapy. The relaxation created by the warm stones is the perfect setting for your body to go into a restorative mode.
Drinking lots of water after the treatment is essential in rehydrated your body and activities like walking or just sitting in a quiet room are highly recommended before resuming the rest of the day’s activities.
Combining the hot stone massage with a full body massage or a deep tissue massage will provide an effective healing experience.
Cold therapy massage
Cold Therapy massage is the most effective way to treat sore lower back or neck. Cold applications slow the inflammation and swelling and because most back pain is a result of an inflammation, addressing the inflammation will release the pain.
Cold therapy is the most effective when it’s applied as fast as possible after an injury. The cold makes the veins and tissue to contract and will reduce circulation. Once the cold is removed the blood that start to circulate will bring nutrients to help the injured muscle to heal.
